Frankincense and Myrrh

One afternoon while making "Duppy Conqueror" one of our popular scented soy candles infused with Frankincense and Myrrh, a glass of it turned over in my kitchen (my factory) and I immediately said to myself "something's up...of all the candles I've been making today, why did this one choose to turn over". So I decided to do a little more research, for my own personal knowledge on the benefits and myths of Frankincense and Myrrh.

In Jamaica the elderly country folk, always say that you should burn out your space (house) with Frankincense to get rid of ghosts or as they would say in Jamaica "Duppy" hence I came up the idea of doing a candle with Frankincense, as Frankincense is not so easy to find and it's different than your average coffee or vanilla candle. The name "Duppy Conqueror" came from a popular Jamaican phrase where they would refer to someone who believes they are untouchable, as a "Bull Buck and Duppy Conqueror", but how does all of this tie back to Frankincense and Myrrh?? Is it really a myth that it cleanses your space-in that sense?

In doing my research online, frankincense is great for treating headaches if mixed with lavender and peppermint, its great for smoothing out the skin, apply to the temples and wrists and it's a great stress reliever ...hmmm where does it run duppy? It even has properties thought to help with thyroid problems and treat cancer...I definitely didn't know all of this.

In ancient times, the resins of frankincense and myrrh were far better than gold, and deemed fit for a king (if you don't know - when Baby Jesus was born, that's what the wise men actually brought as gifts). I think it was far better than gold, because of its many healing properties and its ability to calm and distress you, as well its health benefits based on what I've read online today...I think?? Lets read some more.

Aha: started researching why do churches always burn Frankincense and Myrrh. According to Frankincense is considered great for Protection,?purification, spiritual awareness and an antidepressant. Myrrh is great for spiritual connection and healing. Yup definitely makes sense why they don't burn Citrus or Peppermint in churches.

So back to the day when my glass of Frankincense and Myrrh turned over, guess I needed a little cleansing and protection-who knows, and yes, my hands did feel a lot softer. Guess our old country folk are not too far off either. Myth busted!

For more information on Frankincense and Myrrh, check out this article which I found online:

And here's a recipe (found on pinterest) I'm going to be trying myself, to smooth out your skin and give it a nice glow:

2-4 drops of Frankincense and Myrrh
1-2 Tablespoons of coconut oil
Shake and Store
